At its worst, the built environment can undermine the learning process, inhibit pupil attainment and damage pupil and staff well-being. At its best, it has the capacity to enhance the educational experience and transform the school as a learning organisation and workplace. This section looks at ways of reaching towards higher standards through forward thinking.
Learning Buildings is aimed at change agents, policy makers, practitioners and other professionals interested in education and environment . The pamphlet highlights some of the wider policy issues uncovered by the School Works project. Learning buildings was written in collaboration with Demos and supported by Ecophon. On 12 February Prime Minister Tony Blair and School Standards Minister David Miliband unveiled the fourteen local education authority projects that will spearhead the Government's Building Schools for the Future programme to rebuild or refurbish every secondary school in England.
